About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced, mission-driven Senior UX Designer (Volunteer) to join us at a pivotal moment as we build a first-of-its-kind platform that has the power to reshape the future of health.
You’ll play a central role in designing beautiful, intuitive, consumer-grade experiences that help people better navigate their health journey. This role blends strategy and execution. You’ll have the freedom to explore new patterns, question conventions, and help define what modern, human-centered healthcare experiences can look like. You’ll also take ideas from concept to reality, shaping core flows, interactions, and product surfaces in close partnership with product and engineering. Please note that this is an unpaid volunteer opportunity with a non-profit organization.
What You’ll Do
- Lead UX strategy and design across Kōkūn’s user-facing web and mobile experiences , including our conversational AI interface
- Define and own end-to-end user journeys, from early concept through iteration and launch
- Partner closely with product, engineering, and research teams to translate ideas into shipped, high-quality experiences
- Plan, conduct, and synthesize usability testing and user research to inform design decisions
- Define and evolve Kōkūn’s design system, UX principles, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality
- Mentor and support junior designers, helping grow design craft and culture within the organization
What We’re Looking For
- 5–10 years of experience designing and shipping mobile consumer experiences , with a strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UX work
- Strong systems thinker who can design scalable, cohesive experiences. Proven ability to lead UX from early concept through execution and iteration
- Experience translating complex, data-rich concepts into intuitive, trustworthy interactions
- Solid grounding in usability, accessibility, and inclusive design principles
- Strong communication skills and comfortable collaborating closely with product, engineering, and cross-functional partners in fast-moving environments
- Ability to mentor and guide other designers. Experience managing or leading design teams a plus
- Experience with motion or interaction design and familiarity with AI-driven workflows a plus
