About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled UI/UX Developer to join our team supporting the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection in Northern Virginia. Initially remote, this role will transition to onsite work in Ashburn, VA, when operations return to normal. The successful candidate will serve as a vital member of an Agile Scrum team, responsible for designing and developing intuitive, user-centered interfaces for various legacy and modernized systems. Your expertise will directly influence the usability and visual consistency of our applications, ensuring they meet the highest standards of functionality and aesthetic appeal. You will collaborate closely with business analysts, developers, stakeholders, and end users to deliver high-quality software in short sprint cycles, emphasizing rapid iteration and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen capable of passing a comprehensive background investigation, including checks for felony convictions, illegal drug use, and misconduct.
- Degree in Interactive Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Human Factors, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3+ years of professional experience as a visual designer, interaction designer, or experience designer.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively through websites and web applications that are responsive and user-friendly across all devices.
- Experience leading design projects through discovery, concept, detailed design, and implementation phases.
- Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and ability to influence design standards across applications.
- Experience defining and establishing design systems and standards for enterprise applications.
- Proficiency in creating wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals using tools such as Sketch, Invision, XD, etc.
- Knowledge of modern front-end frameworks such as Angular, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is highly desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong collaborative mindset.
- Ability to work effectively in an agile environment, managing multiple priorities and delivering results on time.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and design custom software application capabilities, ensuring alignment with business needs and technical feasibility.
- Lead the development of a cohesive look-and-feel and standardized user experience across multiple applications.
- Collaborate with creative strategy, UX, visual design, development teams, and clients to formulate effective design strategies.
- Create compelling, user-focused experiences and visual assets that support client objectives.
- Develop and maintain experience style guides, interaction patterns, and information architecture standards.
- Design wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to communicate ideas clearly to stakeholders and team members.
- Establish and maintain style libraries and design systems to ensure consistency across platforms.
- Work closely with functional teams to assess the feasibility of requirements and suggest improvements.
- Ensure the quality and timeliness of deliverables while providing guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to continually enhance design quality.
- Utilize data-driven insights and user feedback to validate and refine designs, ensuring optimal user experience.
- Support responsive and mobile-first design principles to ensure accessibility and usability across devices.
- Assist in integrating modern front-end technologies and frameworks to support seamless implementation.
